Mickey's Beach Bouldering

Mickey's Beach (aka Red Rock Beach), is a nudist beach along the coast of Northern California. It is about a 45 minute drive from San Francisco and just south of the more popular Stinson Beach. This area has plenty of climbing opportunities consisting of hard sport climbs, easy top-roping, and a variety of boulder problems.

Although I have been to Mickey's quite a few times before, I have never seriously bouldered here. The conditions are rarely ever ideal. It's normally wet, damp, windy, foggy, or the tides are too high. Always make sure you check the weather and tides before you head out!

Yesterday, I decided to take a quick late afternoon trip there and try out some of the bouldering. For the most part, the conditions were pretty good. It was sunny and warm. The rock was dry, but still felt smooth, slimy, and slick. I guess it doesn't get much better than that though. The tide was a bit too high, so I was limited to bouldering only on the east side of the Orange Buddha Boulder. I managed to make quick ascents of Orange Pleasure (V4), Orange Pleasure Right Finish (V5), and Orange Buddha Arete (V8).
